Spring has sprung! With days getting longer and warmer my mind is longing for warm sunny days in a sundress....wait oh man, I need to get my skin ready for bearing after hiding it over the winter. Here are some ideas to get your skin looking its best by summer.
Exfoliation
Dry winter conditions can leave skin dull and scaly looking. Try exfoliation to remove old skin and reveal healthy glowing skin. I like to use natural exfoliants like loofahs, they are gentle and compostable. Try these from Luffa gardens. Use daily in the shower, be sure to be gentle as they are very effective.
If you want to take your facial exfoliation game to the next level consider my Floral Cleansing Buff It gently scrubs away oil and dead skin cells to leave your skin smooth and refreshed with this aromatic mix of organic oats, almonds, flowers and clay. This gentle exfoliant could be used daily or weekly as part of a facial regimen.
Moisture
Keep yourself moisturized inside and out. Drinking water is important for removing toxins that can accumulate in the skin when not eliminated properly. Don't like "plain old water"? Here are a few recipes for some infused waters by Mommypotamus to try. Not only will they help with hydration, but also add some nutrition and a lot of flavor.
Once you remove all the old dull skin be sure to seal in moisture with a natural moisturizer or lotion. The use of nutrient dense lotions can help protect skin and keep it looking its best. Upon showering and patting dry apply a good, basic moisturizer, which should contain ingredients that have humectant, occlusive and emollient properties, as well as some combination of lipids. Essentially, the right formulation of these ingredients will help to replenish surface hydration, as well as restore the skin's natural barriers against moisture loss and external irritants.
I have a number of handmade products I offer to keep your face moisturized and dewy (and protected from the sun's harmful rays).
Nutrition
With our hectic schedules and trying to maximize our time in every way, many times our diets suffer. To have beautiful glowing skin proper nutrition is a must! Be sure you are getting plenty of healthy proteins such as nuts, eggs, seeds, sprout breads, seaweed and bean and grain combinations. Healthy fats are also a must to maintain glowing skin. Look to cold pressed olive oil, coconut, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds and wild caught fish.
For those with especially dry skin Omega-3 supplementation may be a good option to make sure you are getting plenty of healthy fats!

Exercise
Regular exercise increases lymphatic flow and circulation, improves digestion, stimulates your metabolic system and facilitates the process of waste removal from the internal organs and skin. Exercise is also vital to emotional wellbeing as it can be energizing and stress relieving as it decreases the body’s elevated hormonal and immune responses to stress. This can also minimize the risk of chronic skin condition breakouts and flare-ups. It also keeps the immune system healthy and better able to respond if needed to combat skin and whole-body health concerns. Regular exercise is an essential part of maintaining good whole-body health, which means your body has the necessary nutrients available to keep skin looking and feeling its best.
